Private candidates certificates
(a) Private candidates must, within a period of not more than five years, have taken the seven core subjects and at least two optional subjects. Non- citizens must substitute an additional optional subject for Setswana. Such candidates must provide to the Director, Examinations Administration and Certification satisfactory evidence of their citizenship status.
(i) When a private candidate has completed the requirements for the award of a Certificate, he may return his Statements of Results to the Director, Examinations Administration and Certification with a request that a Certificate be issued. If the Statements of Results is not available, the candidate must submit the following information with his request for the issue of a Certificate.
· His full name printed in capital letter and for each examination taken;
· If possible, his candidate number
(b) School and private candidates who have met these subject requirements will be divided into five grades on the basis of their overall performance in nine subjects (seven core subjects and two options). If a candidate takes more than one subject from each option, the subject with the best grade will be used for grading.
(c) The following information will be shown on the Certificate:
(i) For school and Type 1 Private Candidates
(ii) For Type 2 Private Candidates:
· The candidate’s examination number for the final examination taken;
· The grade obtained in each subject and the year in which taken.
N.B. Grades obtained in examinations sat as a school candidate may not be combined with grades obtained as a private candidate; that is, school candidates may not upgrade their school certificate using grades/results obtained as a private candidate.
