Botswana Examinations Council (BEC) has released the 2013 Primary School Leaving Examination (PSLE) results.  A total of 43 788 candidates wrote the 2013 examination showing an increase of about 0.5% from the 2012 candidature.

Overall performance shows that the proportion of candidates obtaining grade C or better is 67.58% compared to 65.0% in 2012 representing an increase of 2.58%.

The proportion of candidates obtaining grade A is 12.74% compared to 13.2% in 2012 showing a slight decline of 0.46%.  The proportion of candidates awarded grade B is 17.56% compared to 15.2% in 2012 representing an increase of 2.36%. The percentage of candidates awarded grade C in 2013 is 37.28% compared to 36.6% in 2012 representing a slight increase of about 0.7%.  The percentage of candidates awarded grade D in 2013 is 26.08% compared to 34.4% in 2012 showing a decrease of 8.32%.

The public is also informed that Grade E has changed meaning from the previous years in which it denoted that a candidate failed to meet minimum requirements for Grade D and did not have a performance descriptor.  From this year, Grade E denotes a specified level of performance.  Grade U denotes that a candidate failed to meet minimum requirements for grade E.  Symbol X on the results is not a grade but it is used to denote failure to meet minimum requirements for the award of the overall grade.

Examination Centres will receive copies of their results delivered at the education sub-regional and regional offices through Express Mail Service (EMS).  Regional Education offices can access the results through Malepa system as well as through CDs delivered via EMS.  Candidates can access their results from their schools.
